GrooveSource Cycle 185

Pre-Release Date: 12/29/2009
General Release Date: 1/19/2010

SCREC018 – Recon 22 “Crosshairs EP” Solar Cathedral – TECHNO
Solar Cathedral Recordings proudly debuts Minneapolis' Recon 22 by signing the Crosshairs EP for their imprint's 18th release. With a catalog of music that approaches the dance floor from a slew of different angles this American techno label has been keeping its supporter's on their toes by delivering tunes that sound absolutely nothing like anything they've previously released. Since their launch in 2007 SCREC has consistently maintained an unsuspecting formula & this 3 tracker is delivered with the same malicious intent.

"S & M" is a Huntemann'esque burner that's stripped down to the basics rendering itself as the perfect late night/early morning tool laced with sexy vocal stabs & drifting sounds that captivate & hypnotize while "Centipede" turns up the heat with a ripping bass heavy synth line that is guaranteed to set off even the most timid of rooms. "Bad Activity" seems to combine the energy & personality of both "S & M" & "Centipede" with a twist that's palatable for a broad audience of DJ's, producers & listeners from all walks of techno.

MIZ042 – Various Artists “ZumoBeatz: 2009 Review” Mizumo Music – ELECTRO HOUSE
With 40 releases and 100 artists & remixers, 2009 was a strong and comprehensive year for Mizumo Music. This compilation is a selection of both the label's top picks as well as the favorites of the artists, DJs and followers of Mizumo Music for 2009.

DFD021 – e:machinery “Against The World” Design Forms – TECHNO
Against the world is a hybrid of a thought produced by emachinery. It states there are only a few things that matter in this battle; it is you, the dance floor and the dj against the world..... With builds and synth tweaks that are sure to drop jaws ATW takes you on an adventure, you will sure not forget. Remixes by Anthony Steel, Phase and Jonra.

PP018 – Gabriel Boni “Satisfaction” Prosthetic Pressings – TECHNO

At the tender age of 23, Brazilian born Gabriel Boni has been on a meteoric rise since stepping into the deep ocean of electronic music back in 1998. As head of the incredible iNminimax Records and with his skills as a DJ (recently voted one of the top DJs in Brazil) he shows no signs of slowing down. For this 18th release on Prosthetic, Gabriel has provided us with a peak time techno jam he likes to call Satisfaction and while the original can stand on it's own, we've enlisted the aid of two up and coming artists to provide their interpretations. First up is Droid Recording artist and Drumcell cohort Audio Injection who has taken the original, completely deconstructed it and rebuilt a MONSTER of a remix which just may knock some clubs off their foundations. Rounding out the package is Italy's own Tony Vallini whose skills in the production seat are clearly evident when you listen to his mix. This thing takes on a life of its own. Just make sure you have the strength to hold on for the ride.

ANM022 – Tony Senghore “Dism” Anonym – ELECTRO HOUSE

It is footloose, forward thinking and quite often a bit odd. Sprinkled with curiosity for exploring new ways to the purpose of making people shuffle their tired feet. Pugnacious, belligerent and slightly gung-ho with a definite taste for blood. What do we speak of you ask? Well it could only be the music of Tony Senghore. Tony has a diverse discography that counts up in the hundreds. It is colourful and full of contrasts. Never reluctant, always different. Out side of his own productions, remix treatment has been given to a wide range of artists like Bodyrox, Audiobullys, Lady Sovereign, Ladytron, Bent, Til West, Portobella, Syndicated People, John Dahlback, and many more.

PP017 – Marcelo Tag “The Broken Harted” Prosthetic Pressings – TECHNO/MINIMAL/TECH-HOUSE
Over the last several years, Marcelo Tag has become a very well-known name in the Italian clubbing scene with DJ appearances across Italy and beyond and now he joins the Prosthetic Pressings family. Marcelo is equally familiar behind the decks and in the studio, where working with live instruments is one of his specialties. You will see this once you give The Broken Harted a listen and experience the guitars.

Following up the original, we enlisted the aid of Scotland's own Gary Beck, and man did he deliver a proper dancefloor destroyer! Gary has been on fire as of late with support from several of today's top jocks including Josh Wink, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Len Faki, Slam and Hawtin. His first release came out on the Philly label, Worship Recordings and since then he has released on labels like Minus, Soma, Edit Select, Figure, Perc Trax and his very own Bek-Audio.

Rounding out the package, we leave Scotland and take a trip over to Brazil where we meet up with the head honcho of the incredible iNminimax Records, awesome producer/DJ and all around nice guy, Gabriel Boni. His mix of The Broken Harted rides a very fine edge between house and techno which slowly builds until unleashing a full on funked out jam.

IM043 – Various Artists “The Magic Test EP” Impact Mechanics – TECHNO
Continuing the string of classy releases is this hot 4-track EP collaboration from mega label's Kombination Research and Impact Mechanics. This EP is truly amazing! The Advent and Industrialyzer kick things off with Magic Test which utilizes chunky beats, glitchy analog stabs and a big, round fat bottom end - an absolute DESTROYER. Trippy synths, rolling beats and a tension that rises and engulfs anything and everything in its path, just the way we like it.

The immensely talented duo from Chicago and Austria better known as Submerge and Virgil Enzinger created Sublime. With their drop dead chunky beats, lush analog keys and a bassline thick enough to cut with a knife, this is a quality track that will please both the hard and minimal crowds alike.

Also on the bill is Angel Alanis who has reworked his anthem, Drum Rehab! This remix of a classic is a mesmerizing ass-shaking techy monster, complete with massive bassline, silky smooth keys and a compelling drum track. It does the business.

Mark Verbos rounds out the package with Pressure Rhythm which is a gritty, rocking track with a ton of ass-shaking flavor. This is a straightforward hard drum track with driving beats, fierce grinding stabs, head-bobbing rhythms, thick bass, and a ton of quirky, electrified synth stabs. Rocking stuff that is destined for the top of the charts! Quality EDM from front to back.

PMPD015 – Itzone “Muevete” People Mover Productions – TECHNO
People Mover is proud to present our 15th digital release, MUEVETE, by ITZONE: featuring the Colin Zyskowski Remix. Itzone stays true to his nature in the original, with the same quirks, depth, soundscapes, and ambience that he's become so well known for. The Colin Zyskowski remix takes those aspects of the original and puts a little more kick in the mix... a little more four on the floor.

ANM021 – Tony Senghore “If You Came Here…” Anonym – ELECTRO HOUSE

Mastermind Tom Hades has produced on labels such as Drumcode, Hell Yeah, 8 Sided Dice. This EP brings us the "Original Mix" of the title cut; Krank a gritty, straight forward Techno mover and the "Master of deception," a more driving and upfront version. UNION018 – Magors “Do I Move You” Union Recordings – HOUSE
In this installment of the Union Recordings saga, we are bringing to you 2 brand new producers. Our first debut artist goes by the name of Magors and his track Do I Move You has got some major sound! Do you like monster sweeps and blues? Yes? Well, you're in luck with this one. Magors has blended the sweet sounds of flute, harmonica, and blues guitar on top of a tech house beat and a vocal that sets this track off just right. To get another spin on these sounds we've called on another Union new comer, Chris Robson, for the remix. Both tracks have got the bluesy house vibe that will keep the dance-floor moving into the wee hours of the morn. This isn't even the best part. Tommy Largo was such a hit with the last Union remix, we decided to call on his deep house talents one more time for this EP. If you are unfamiliar with this Tommy's talents, check out his production work on this remix. We keep the quality high and the volume even higher!

GrooveSource Cycle 174

Pre-Release Date: 10/13/2009
General Release Date: 11/3/2009

JEL045 – Ramon Tapia & BP “Water Melon” Jericho – TECHNO
Having cemented his position as one of the producers in 2008, with a string of genre-defining releases on many leading labels, including Great Stuff, Craft Music, Turbo Records and Yellow Tail, Ramon Tapia is hot property. Here Ramon teams up with production partner BP for this release on Jericho. Water Melon is a fine example of the fluid, groove-filled tech house that has won Tapia so many fans. Supplying ample inspiration for both the head and the feet, the haunting melodies that signature the track are partnered by shifting percussion and wobbly, effect-soaked noises to ensure a good melon twisting. Down At The Offkeys steps up the pace and the intensity, but retains the otherworldly vibe of the EP. Throbbing bass pulses under marching beats, while hissing whispers fade in and out of the buzzing synth loops, that usher in rising sirens to take over the breakdown. A high impact crowd-pleaser for dark rooms.

DFD019 – Jonra “Telephone Man EP” DesignForms – TECHNO/DEEP HOUSE
Revolution ( deep house)
What do we love most about black licorice pizza? Why, all the different toppings, of course! And for this slice, selector and sequencor extraordinairre Jonra Babi- (racki if you're nasty) takes it down a notch and reminds us that, as much as we love to dance, we must chill. This is the one you always put on after the club, the voice of calm after a chaotic day, or on homemade compilations so your friends can hear how deep you like to go.

Dr Filth vs Octomom (techno)
Upon examination, Dr. Filth vs. Octomom is one serious psych session. For this track, Freud is disregarded and lithium is no cure for the clinically-insane bassline, industrial clangs, and twisting noise effects brought forth from deep in the chaos of Jonra Babiracki's noggin.

Faith (techno)
Techno magnus Jonra Babiracki shows us his spiritual side on Faith. That is, like the name implies, he is keeping the faith by sticking true to the sick old days (with a twist, of course). This track stomps, clicks, wobbles and slithers down a bass-lined O.G.techno tunnel. You'll find yourself wondering what event will you be at when called upon to dance to this track? It's a question of faith.

Feedback:
Orde Meikle (Slam/Soma) - hard as nails - end of night madness
anthony shakir - very technno-ey sounding chicago release.
Alland Byallo - Cool stuff from Jonra. LA!

Orde Meikle (Slam/Soma) - dark deep moody
Aubrey - Yeah good job...great ep..thanks
antonio pocai (Wagon repair - tenax recordings) - Deep !!!

DIFD038 – Zarbeat “Fantasmoso” Difusion – MINIMAL
Like the old good times back when difusion was just starting this is original track made by Zarbeat that after passing it over to the Difusion original members crew became a remixed EP. Three very talented mexican artists instantly became part of this project. The original track was composed by Zarbeat and it was influenced by pure 8 bit synths and gated kicks. Track number two was remixed by Difusion's very own Gusgo. This version of the track is the interpretation of this very talented artist showing his very complex beat programing and manipulation of virtual instruments driving the track into the dark alley of minimal techno. Track number three remixed by Maxson is completly full of 4x4 loops using his production skills he remastered each sample to achive maximum control over the track. A very bouncy track is the final product. Track number four was remixed by one of the most requested artis in mexico, Edgar Medina aka Transistor. His resulting mix is a very organic and spaced out track having new elements incorporated in to the 8 bit crazyness.

Feedback:
Orde Meikle - tough tough - super
aubrey - wow....great...love it
antonio pocai - nice pac man !!!
Lee Holman - gusgo mix best for me on this package! thanks again !

DGRS001 – FDK “Under Sol E.P.” DG Label – MINIMAL
The first release for the DG Label Reverse Series features FDK for all of the analogue deep minimal techno prowlers. FDK tunes bring the light and the most out of a rhythm. This duo's talents are on full display as they unleash modern sounds that do nothing but emote throughout their length while the beat pounds away in the background. This "Under Sol EP" provides just the right amount of atmosphere within it's sparse surroundings.

4TRK021 – DJ Hyperactive “Reptilian Tank Revisited” 4 Track Records – TECHNO
The story began on DJ Hyperactive's Chicago based label Contact in 1996. At the time the release only saw the light of day on vinyl but soon thereafter and 10,000 units sold the track that carried the EP, Reptilian Tank, gets it's first re-working on the Uppercut label run by Frankie Vega. The Original Noise Maker release didn't slow down the momentum the single track had and nearly 20 years later we're at it again giving you another pair of remixes from two of the busier techno producers in the US. Audio Injection settles into the smog induced control room and transports back in time and cracks the code of the 101 that did all the heavy lifting on the original and conjures up a different dialect of the original warping, lfo laiden, synth assault reminiscent of the original with a bit more effects and sinister kick. Submerge 101's mix comes out of the gate with a heavy swinging percussion ensemble to quickly turn the corner with a rolling synth line to keep the energy peaking. The arrangement builds on layers of original elements until the ugly beast rears it's head again after a decade of hibernating!
